Project Volunteer Nepal (PVN) is more than a volunteering organisation.
We are a local, non-profit initiative committed to responsible, community-based volunteering that truly makes a difference. Our service goes beyond the projects themselves — it includes careful preparation, personal guidance, and a home where volunteers and travellers alike feel part of our family.
Our service for responsible volunteers

Scientific research has shown that commercial voluntourism — mixing travel with unprepared volunteering — often causes more harm than good. Many projects fail to help local communities because profit comes before purpose, and volunteers arrive without the skills or understanding needed for meaningful work.

Our service therefore includes thorough preparation and honest guidance — even before your volunteering begins. We help you understand Nepal’s social and cultural context and what your role will realistically look like. Commercial voluntourism often fails because volunteers are too young, too untrained, and not culturally prepared.
We address this by offering a Free Orientation Course that covers:
- Basic knowledge about Nepal’s socio-economic situation,
- Daily life and expectations while living in Kathmandu,
- Cultural Understanding of local traditions and customs,
- and a clear insight into the impact and risks of commercial voluntourism.
This is what Responsible Volunteering means to us — awareness, respect, and preparation instead of empty promises. And it starts long before you arrive in Nepal.
All information is transparently available on our website, because real change begins with knowledge — not marketing.
Our service to make you feel home in Nepal

We welcome both volunteers and travellers who wish to experience authentic Nepali life. Unlike most guesthouses found online, our home is not in a tourist area — it’s located amidst everyday life in Kathmandu. This gives you the rare chance to see Nepal as it really is — vibrant, imperfect, and full of heart.
Staying with us means being part of a small, close-knit community. We eat together, share stories, and help one another. Breakfast and dinner are included, along with clean drinking water, tea, and free WiFi. Meals are freshly prepared and enjoyed together — often while talking about the day’s experiences or planning the next adventure.
Our staff live on-site, ready to support you whenever needed. Rajeev, a licensed guide for Kathmandu Valley, loves to share insights into Nepali culture, traditions, and history. Together, we make sure that your time in Nepal feels like living with family rather than staying in a hostel.
