How We Create Impact in Nepal – Our Aid Projects

Distribution of schoolbags to children in a rural mountain village in Nepal – symbolizing the real impact of Project Volunteer Nepal’s aid projects.

Project Volunteer Nepal (PVN) works hand in hand with the German non-profit hamromaya Nepal e.V..
Hamromaya finances, PVN implements on the ground — together with fellow Nepali partners and the communities we serve. Our projects are designed to be respectful, transparent and practical. If you’re volunteering or simply staying with us, you’re welcome to visit and, where meaningful, join the work.

Since 2013, hamromaya Nepal e.V. has supported Nirmal Bal Bikas, a school for children and adults with mental disabilities in Kathmandu. PVN later became the on-the-ground partner, coordinating daily support and working closely with teachers, caregivers, and families to improve the students’ wellbeing and learning environment.

Over the years, we have organised medical check-ups, therapeutic activities, and small infrastructure improvements that truly matter in everyday life.

It is a place full of warmth — built on small steps, steady attention, and genuine care. Volunteers can join our Disabled School Volunteer Project to assist staff through presence, compassion, and play — and to experience what inclusion really means in Nepal.

“One Schoolbag for Each Child”

Distribution of schoolbags and stationery to children in rural Nepal – part of the long-term project “One Schoolbag for Each Child” by hamromaya Nepal and PVN.
Delivering schoolbags to children in remote villages – giving education a chance to travel farther.

Since 2016, we have distributed nearly 30,000 schoolbags to children in some of Nepal’s most remote and hard-to-reach regions. Each delivery means more than just a bag — it means dignity, encouragement, and the feeling of being seen. For many children, it’s the first time they own something that is truly theirs, helping them to walk the long, steep paths to school with pride.

This is not a classic volunteer placement, but guests staying with us can join the field work while in Nepal. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience — travelling to mountain regions that few outsiders ever visit, meeting communities far off the tourist trail, and witnessing what solidarity looks like in real life.

The Canteen Project – Shram Rastriya High School (Kathmandu)

A healthy, reliable lunch keeps children in school and ready to learn. At Shram Rastriya High School in Kathmandu, hamromaya Nepal e.V. funds the canteen that provides hundreds of students with a warm meal every day — a small change that makes a big difference in attendance and concentration.

While PVN helps to coordinate activities and support the school community on site, our volunteers become part of everyday school life. Depending on their experience and confidence, they can assist in English lessons, help in the computer class, or simply spend time engaging with students through conversation, creativity, and play. It’s less about teaching in the traditional sense and more about sharing ideas, perspectives, and encouragement.

Even if you’re not standing at the blackboard, your presence matters — showing interest, helping shy students gain confidence, and exchanging cultures in a respectful and genuine way.
We always welcome thoughtful input and new perspectives:

Medical & Dental Camps in Rural Areas

Together with Nepali doctors and pharmacists, we run mobile medical and dental camps in villages where healthcare is hard to reach. Many areas rely on a single health post serving multiple communities; distance and cost keep people away.
Trained volunteers can contribute meaningfully — hand in hand with local professionals.

Other Ongoing Initiatives

  • Education Sponsorships & Family Support: long-term assistance for children and families — focused on schooling, health and stability.
  • Support for Rural Schools (e.g., Lamjung): materials, small infrastructure fixes, and practical help that keeps classes running.

These initiatives are financed by hamromaya Nepal e.V. and implemented on the ground by PVN and our local partners.

The Project That Started It All

After the devastating earthquakes in 2015, hamromaya Nepal e.V. financed the rebuilding of a completely destroyed primary school in the remote mountain village of Ikudol.

Reaching the area was difficult — long, winding roads, limited transport, and entire communities cut off from help. Yet, the will to rebuild was stronger than any obstacle.

Before Project Volunteer Nepal officially existed (2017/2018), Rajeev and Vishal volunteered privately, travelling repeatedly to the site, coordinating local workers, and keeping the project alive despite countless challenges.

The rebuilt primary school in Ikudol – a lasting symbol of commitment, teamwork, and hope.

Their dedication turned an idea into reality — and built far more than a school: it built trust, friendship, and a shared purpose.

This experience became the foundation of our partnership and the spark that would later grow into Project Volunteer Nepal.

Ikudol remains a reminder of what can happen when people from different worlds come together with open hearts and a common goal. For Rajeev, Vishal, and Khai, this project was the starting point of a journey that continues to this day — full of challenges, growth, and deep gratitude for everyone involved.
